Peach City Ice Cream, or "Peach City," was established by J.W. “Bill” Harris in 1937. The original location was noted as 151 South Main Street. In 1957, it was noted as being at 129 S. Main. It was remodeled several times and grew to have 5 booths and 14 stools at the fountain and capable of producing 500 gallons of their own ice cream. Bill also purchased the Hollywood Candy Co. and ran them both for a time.
By the end of April 1957, LeGrande Horsely advertised that the “building formerly occupied by the Peach City Ice Cream” would be coming available around June 1. Peach City then moved to its current location at 306 North Main. This move appears to have been motivated by the increasingly popular drive-ins as more teens and young adults had access to cars. By September of 1961, the diner added sheltered parking. According to Peach City's website, Harvey Morgan was hired in 1958 and, later, Harvey and his wife bought the diner in 1971.
Some of the drinks were inspired by the many soldiers that would frequent Peach City during the Bushnell Hospital days of World War II. The Walt Mann Special was named after Walter Grant Mann, a prominent citizen of Brigham City who was well-known for being the voice of the Peach Days parade.
Do you have more information about this post or is any information incorrect? Do you have photos of the early location? We'd love to add to our knowledge of this iconic bit of Brigham City history!
